An experimental analysis of multi-attribute auctions

چکیده

Auctions are a fundamental mechanism to automating negotiations in electronic commerce. We investigate multi-attribute auctions, an economic mechanism, which automates negotiation on multiple attributes of a deal. In this approach, we combine decision analysis techniques and single-sided auction mechanisms in order to procure goods and services. The paper describes an experimental analysis of multi-attribute auctions. First, we will provide an overview of the preliminary game-theoretical and simulation results. Then we will introduce a Web-based implementation of the mechanism and describe the design and the results of an experiment analyzing the economic behavior of multi-attribute auction formats. In the experiment, the utility scores achieved in multi-attribute auctions were significantly higher than those of single-attribute auctions. The efficiency was similar in single-attribute and multi-attribute auctions, and we did not find evidence for revenue equivalence between the multi-attribute auction formats. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. A Comparative Study of Multi-Attribute Continuous Double Auction Mechanisms

Auctions have been as a competitive method of buying and selling valuable or rare items for a long time. Single-sided auctions in which participants negotiate on a single attribute (e.g. price) are very popular. Double auctions and negotiation on multiple attributes create more advantages compared to single-sided and single-attribute auctions. Nonetheless, this adds the complexity of the auctio...

Winner Determination in Combinatorial Auctions using Hybrid Ant Colony Optimization and Multi-Neighborhood Local Search

A combinatorial auction is an auction where the bidders have the choice to bid on bundles of items. The WDP in combinatorial auctions is the problem of finding winning bids that maximize the auctioneer’s revenue under the constraint that each item can be allocated to at most one bidder. The WDP is known as an NP-hard problem with practical applications like electronic commerce, production manag...

Multi-attribute auctions for electronic procurement

Auctions are a fundamental mechanism to automate negotiations in electronic commerce. We consider a class of multi-lateral negotiation situations, which requires negotiation on multiple attributes of a deal. These situations are typical for corporate procurement. Current auction implementations do not support these negotiations adequately. In the paper we propose multi-attribute auctions, an ec...

Multi-Attribute Auctions with Unobserved Heterogeneity in Supplier Qualities and Buyer Tastes

Multi-attribute auctions play a very important role in our economy: (i) they are widely used in industry procurement; (ii) many markets for services are organized in a form reminiscent of private multi-attribute auctions; (iii) recently many Internetbased markets adopted multi-attribute structure. Multi-attribute auctions differ from standard low price auctions in that (a) a buyer chooses a win...
